With a prominent location in downtown Bethesda, MD, Metro Tower will serve as an iconic addition to BF Saul's portfolio of properties. This 366-unit apartment building is designed to accommodate a well-established clientele in the greater Washington, DC market.
In addition to the building itself, BF Saul is developing the adjacent plaza into a pedestrian-friendly oasis within the busy district, nearly doubling its size to 9,183 sf greenspace with a fountain and public art.
The adjacency to public transportation presented a challenge to the design team: How to provide a grand public lobby that serves pedestrians from public transit as well as the nearby business district and still create a welcoming ambience.
WDG Interior Architecture worked closely with the client as well as the base building architect to design a stunning 2-story lobby that emulates the nuances of the building's art deco exterior, while maintaining a level of sophistication and elegance. The lobby is illuminated by a custom-designed crystal art installation which was created to provide a sense of glamour as well as to evoke movement through the space.
The Rooftop Clubroom, which serves as the "crown" of the building, combines a relaxed, poolside environment with a stately yet comfortable community room, equipped with fireplaces, gaming, and a serving kitchen. The Clubroom has direct access to rooftop patios and grilling stations and is appointed with large expanses of windows to take advantage of amazing views of the city.
